Hack Cville
At the beginning of the year Hack Cville made their first visit with the 2016 HMS Entrepreneurship class. They told everyone to get in groups based off of your Myers-Briggs Personality Test Results. Then we were told to think of a problem we could change at Henley. Ideas were flowing through the room and solutions were being made.
STING in the Morning
Worked on by Sean E. Andrew S. Austin P. Jack M. and Tye D.
These students find the biggest problem at Henley to be that this year the school switched STING from the morning to the afternoon. This is worse because students can't do home work that they didn't finish from the night before or settle in before starting the day. They have had two meetings with Dr. Costa, and have made progress towards their goal. Even though it is just a time change it can make a big difference.
Too Much Homework
Worked on by Megan F. and Nina P.
Students have been staying up way too late because their teachers all together have exceeded the limit of homework time. These two girls are now here to enforce the limit. The homework time has increased every ten minutes starting in first grade. Sixth is now at one hour of homework per night, seventh grade at seventy minutes, and eighth grade is at eighty minutes. This pair has had a meeting with Dr. Costa on ways they can fix this problem, maybe a study hall or simply less homework. Either way the girls are ready to go.
Getting to Western Sports on Time
Worked on by Joseph T. Ella T. and Daniel K.
Joseph and Ella runs cross country and track at Western High School and he can never manage to get to school on time. Western gets out at 4:00, and Henley gets out at 4:05. He is already 5 minutes behind and then he needs to walk over, change, and stretch. Both Ella, Joseph and their friend Daniel are working together to help any student that do Western sports. Some ideas like getting a 10 minute STING at the end of the day or a separate bus that goes to Western have all come up as solutions. They want to make sure over half of the Henley students benefit from this class.
Henley Tutors
Worked on by Ally B. and Maya C.
A student generated business started last year has now been taken over be these two 8th grade girls. Even though there are many subjects in school math seems to be the subject students struggle on the most. There plan is to help teachers before and after school with students who come in for help on homework. This is non-profit and all the idea produces is positive outcomes.
Citizenship Hours
Worked on by Natalie F.
Natalie has realized that getting all 10 citizenship hours in the span of 9 weeks can be difficult. Natile isn't entirely sure on how to earn the hours, but she has one common goal, togain hours.
School Store
Worked on by Alex H. Hayes H. Gannon S. Wade D. and David G.
The idea was created last year by 2015-2016 HMS entrepreneurship students, Owen S. and Noah H. Now current entrepreneurship students have taken over and our planning to sell before school in study hall.
Scott Pops
Worked on by Sarah R. Maeci F. Molly S. Ellie W. Campbell W. Mary R. and Liliah B.
No Henley student can go a school year without hearing the to words, Scott Pops! This group of ladies has taken on the most popular treat sold at the school. Together they create advertisements, establishing surveys, and making the tasty Scott Pops. So far they have created an ad, sold at activity periods/dances, written a survey, and made thousands of Scott Pops. This grup is constantly coming up with ideas to make this buisiness better.
Selling Scott Pops Outside of School
Worked on by Elizabeth B. and Kylie T.
If Scott Pops are so succesfully sold throughout Henley why not try selling them outside school? That is the main question these two are tackling.
